Preparing to leave...
Aloha, friends and family!
Believe it or not, we are wrapping up week 12 of our lecture phase here in Kona. It’s been tough, but it’s been good. In exactly 3 days from now we will be on a jet plane headed to Curitiba, Brazil (well, first we stop in Los Angeles, jump on a plane to DC, head for Sao Paulo, and then to Curitiba). 34 hours of traveling…yaayyy!
Over the last few weeks we have had speakers teach on freedom through Christ, Holy Spirit, relationships/submission, our identity in Christ and evangelism. It was all good stuff, but I would like to share with you just a few things that really blew me (Lisa) away. First of all, do any of you realize how much we feel entitled to on a daily basis (i.e. eating what, living where, sleeping when we want) when really the only thing we are entitled to based on our own merit is death (Romans 6:23)? Anything else we get is “cake” as Pete Mahoney put it. We are sinful creatures and yet God still lavishes us with gifts thanks to Jesus Christ. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights…” James 1:17. I am quite convicted of complaining. Another thing that really hit me was the fact that Jesus, also known as God, the Creator of all things, chose to humble Himself and came down to live on this earth as a human being just for you and me. The part that really got me though was the realization that He did this knowing that He would be in human form forever (Philippians 3:20-21). Now that is a selfless and loving God. And then there is Peter. The fact that Peter watched his wife, his love, being crucified on a cross and the whole time yelled, “Remember Christ,” in order to comfort her just renders me speechless. Remember Who it is that you are dying for. I mean, the faith this man had in order to respond in this way just amazes me. His passion and love for Jesus astounds me. Then when it was his turn to be crucified he had them nail him upside down on the cross because he felt he was not worthy to die like his King (Jesus). Wow.
I also want to share our most recent community outreach story involving a wild man, an ex-nun, a seemingly normal guy from Michigan and us (along with Matthias, the German) in a hotel room, but that will have to wait until our next blog.
As I mentioned already, we leave for Brazil in just 3 short days, on Christmas. We are super excited to get there and get started. We will be focusing on the following 7 themes of the Call2All movement: Church Planting, Houses of Prayer, 4k Mapping, Compassion, Evangelism, Unreached People Groups and Oral Learners. We will further explain each theme as we move along in them. Please continue to pray for us and our team. We are desperate for spiritual covering in the following areas: traveling mercies, physical health, team unity and continued grace in our marriage.
We love and miss you all, but take comfort in knowing that we are exactly where He wants us right now. It seems that He is calling us to Kona for a longer term once we return from Brazil. We believe we know the plan, but are not 100% positive at this point and will let you all know as soon as it is confirmed!
Merry Christmas to you all. We pray the peace and joy of the Lord over you and your household. Happy birthday, Jesus!
